i, Robot

I recently rewatched i, Robot last week, and wow I forgot how good the movie is! It's still one of my favorite sci-fi movies for many reasons. First, Will Smith is (of course) awesome in his role of Del Spooner. Second, the action, effects, and humor are exhilarating. And lastly, there are some really well-conveyed themes throughout the movie.

i, Robot (released in 2004) takes place in the year 2035 in a futuristic version of Chicago. Del Spooner is a homicide detective for the city, and also superstitious about robots, which have become a norm in society. Robots are active in various roles throughout society including as delivery personnel, personal assistants, even house servants.

Due to a previous incident that Spooner was involved in with a robot, he believes that they are all just lights and clockwork, and nothing compared to what a human is capable of believing and accomplishing. As the movie begins, Spooner is referred to a case that is right up his alley (though no one else believes his theories) of a crime that appears to have been perpetrated by a robot and could lead to an even larger threat to society.

Will Smith's Detective Spooner is a very fun and interesting character to follow through the story. His sense of humor and jokes are on point, and will get a laugh out of you no matter how serious the scene is! It's also neat to see 'prejudice' portrayed in such a unique way. Like some in our modern day society, Spooner judges each and every robot he encounters based on one bad experience he had. He treats them just as he sees them, as near meaningless individuals. There's a lot to observe and learn throughout the movie as the character grows and develops an understanding and appreciation of robots.

We are told continually in the Bible to love our neighbors and treat others the way we want to be treated. Jesus shows us the power of showing kindness and fairness in a world riddled with prejudice and judgment of others. I love how clear the themes and message of this story are to the viewer. Judging someone solely on their appearance rather than taking the time to get to know who they are beneath the surface is unfair. I want to challenge you to step out and make an effort to strike up a conversation with someone you normally wouldn't and see what God does. Who knows, you may make their day (or they make yours!), and even gain a new friend!

If you have not had a chance to see i, Robot before, I highly recommend it! And if you have but it's been a while since your last viewing, check it out again and see what you pick up on that you previously missed.

Thanks for reading, I appreciate each and every person who takes the time to read my blog. I kept this post brief because it's been over a month since my last post and I wanted to get this post up and get started on the next one!

God bless! šŸ˜ƒ
