Mission: Impossible Fallout

Hi everyone! Sorry I haven't posted a new review for a while; my summer has been packed. With going to Mexico, then having my sister visit back to back with going to CT for my other sister's wedding, life has been crazy! I have had the opportunity to watch a bunch of movies though during that time, so look forward to some new posts over the next few weeks!

Mission Impossible Fallout is the latest entry in the Mission Impossible movie franchise! We're now six movies in and the franchise is one of the few that seems to get better with each new entry. Fallout is actually the first direct sequel in the movie franchise which is really cool, as we get to see the continuation of Rogue Nation's story.

The story for this entry is similar to the others, which probably the only slightly weak part of the film. After a mission gone wrong, Ethan Hunt and his IMF team must race against time to save the world from the remnants of the Syndicate whom he took down in the last movie. They now call themselves the Apostles and have obtained three plutonium cores, and it's up to Ethan and his team to stop them before it's too late.

Mission Impossible Fallout has been widely praised by both critics and audiences! When it first released, the movie's Rotten Tomato score actually went UP (which is rare) and it now sits at a 97%. With Tom Cruise at the helm doing ALL his own stunts, including racing a motorcycle against traffic through the streets of Paris, sprinting across city rooftops, performing a HALO jump, and even learning to fly a helicopter for the climactic finale, it's obvious why it's referred to as the action movie to beat. You definitely don't want to miss seeing this one in theaters for its action and set locations alone!

I personally have always enjoyed the Mission Impossible movies, and this one is no different. I love how each entry continues to push the limits of its action, set pieces, and Tom Cruises stunts. It certainly is probably the best in the franchise, and definitely the one to beat right now! Beyond that, though the story is very textbook and familiar, it's the action that makes this movie stand out as great. I will happily take an action movie with a somewhat familiar story if it means the action sequences will blow me away.

Beyond the phenomenal action, this movie also gives us some new depth to the character of Ethan. The cool thing about it is it's something we've recognized for a while about his character, but it has never something that was emphasized and focused on as part of the story. Ethan is so good at what he does not because of his fighting abilities or how smart he is; what makes him unique is that he cares just as much about saving the one person as he does the millions. Not everyone in Ethan's world holds this value, and I think oftentimes, we don't either.

As Christian's, we know that we are to go into all the world and make disciples. But, I think more times than less, we worry so much about changing the whole world for Christ, that we forget to pay attention to the people in our everyday lives. I myself am guilty of this too. People like your neighbor, your co-worker, the person who hands you your coffee every morning at the drive-through. Their salvation is just as important as the person's or the city's across the world. I want to challenge you not to let yourself become accustomed to the everyday people in your life. Don't take them for granted. Remember that just like the mission fields across the globe, God places these people in our lives for a reason. Jesus never let an opportunity to show God's love go by, so why should we do any different?

Next time you see someone who looks like they could use some prayer or some of God's love, remember how far Ethan Hunt would go to save one person's life. Jesus Christ died and rose again to save each and every one of our souls, and He entrusts us to be the vessel to help bring them all home.

Overall, I would give Mission Impossible Fallout a 9 out of 10. The action was phenomenal, the stunt work was perfect, and the story (though familiar) was engaging as the characters did a great job bringing the intensity to life for the audience. If you're able to, I highly recommend you go see this one in the theater, it will blow your mind! As always, thank you for reading! Even though life gets super busy, writing these is one of my favorite things to do, and I really appreciate anyone to takes the time to read them. Until next time!

God bless! 😃
Austin
