The Good Doctor

Image
The Good Doctor is a new medical drama TV show that recently premiered on ABC. It is about a young man named Shaun Murphy who's dream is to be a surgeon. He is a brilliant person who is equally kind. He also has autism and savant syndrome which gives him near photographic recall, and the ability to notice small and minute details and changes. Before I begin with what excellent lessons there are to learn, let me give some background on the show. Shaun, the main character, is from a small town and had a troubled childhood. His father was physically and verbally abusive to him and his younger brother Steve. His brother was the only one who every truly stood up for and looked out for him. One time, after their dad had yelled at Shaun and incidentally killed Shaun's pet rabbit, his brother decided that was enough and ran away from their parents and took Shaun with him knowing it was the only way to keep him safe. After some time of living on their own in an old school bus in a j

Premium Rush

Just like the movie I talked about in last weeks post ( Baby Driver ), Premium Rush is an adrenaline rush of a movie! It is about a young man named Wilee who is one of 1,500 bike messengers in New York City. He is known as a reckless daredevil by his friends and co-workers, but also the best at his job. He loves the constant excitement of racing around the city and never knowing what is around each corner. For those who have not seen the movie, let me give you some background on where the story starts off. Don't worry, I can't stand spoilers so there will never be any in this blog. We start things off seeing Wilee working his job one afternoon, giving us an idea of what his personality and job are like; racing from location to location. We are told much of this through a voice over from Wilee himself. The first line in the film is him saying "I can't work in an office. I don't like wearing suits. I like to ride. Fixed gear, steel frame, no breaks. The bike c

Baby Driver

I finally had the chance to watch Baby Driver this past weekend. It's a new heist movie that came out this summer, and I will say, it was one of the most adrenaline filled action packed movies I've seen in quite a while! So many of the details of the movie were precise and well executed. The music added another level of depth to the movie that I was not expecting but really appreciated. Shortly after watching the movie, I knew I wanted to write about it in this blog, so I began on some general research to learn more about the movie itself. I was reading some reviews of the movie when I came across a Christian one and hesitantly clicked on it out of curiosity. The gist of the review was that Baby Driver was an action-packed adventure, but, that it was extremely offensive to Christians due to language and violent content. This view I understood, because I know not all Christians have the same views on language and violence in movies. But, the line in the review that really u

Stranger Things (Season 1)

Image
Recently, in anticipation of season 2 of Stranger Things releasing later this month, I have been re-watching season 1 to refresh myself on the story and characters. It was one of my favorite shows last year, and I can't wait to see what comes next. When I first watched the show, I instantly fell in love with the characters and the story. Each character was so well written and interesting, and the story was very engaging. For those who have not seen the show, it takes place in the rural fictional town of Hawkins in the year 1984, and the general premise is 4 boys (Mike, Dustin, Lucas, and Will) who are best friends are hanging out one night playing a game together at one of their houses. Once they are finished for the night, Dustin, Lucas, and Will all head home on their bikes. While on their ride (Lucas has already gone on his own) Will challenges Dustin to a race back to their houses (they are neighbors). Will gets far in the lead, but falls off his bike when he is startled b
